At the start of February the gate opens at about sunrise. By late in the month it opens around a quarter of an hour before the sun comes up, so you catch the first light inside the park. Sunset starts the month after closing time and ends it just before.

Holidays in February 2027

February has no public holidays and no school holidays. Schools are in term from 13 January to 19 March 2027, which makes this one of the quieter months at the gates.

What February is like in the park

It's hot and humid. Skukuza in Kruger averages a high of 33 °C and a low of 21 °C in February, with about 109 mm of rain. The grass and leaves are green and at their most nutritious, so the animals are fattening up, and the waterbuck are breeding. It's a very good month for birding.

Wet summers can close low-water bridges and gravel roads. Ask at the gate which roads are open before you plan a loop.

When to leave Marloth

Give yourself about 20-30 min from Marloth Park to Crocodile Bridge, so leave by 05:00 to be there when the gate opens at 05:30.

Coming back, Lower Sabie is 34 km from the gate. At the 30 km/h average worth planning on, that drive takes a little over an hour. Leave Lower Sabie by 17:15 and you'll be through Crocodile Bridge before 18:30.

A South African adult pays R140 a day until 31 October 2027. The other rates are on Kruger fees.

Other months: January, March or the whole year.
