Sunrise gets earlier quickly in September. On 1 September the gate opens at about sunrise, and by the end of the month the sun has been up for almost half an hour by opening time. The sun sets before the gates close all month, by about 20 minutes at the start and 8 minutes at the end.

Holidays in September 2027

  • Schools close on Wednesday 22 September, and the spring school holidays run 23 September to 4 October 2027.
  • Heritage Day is Friday 24 September, which makes 24-26 September a long weekend inside the holidays.

The last week of September has a long weekend and school holidays together, and that's when the gates most often reach their daily limit for day visitors. Check quotas and pre-booking before you go. Until 22 September, schools are in term.

What September is like in the park

It's spring. The odd shower falls, but water is still scarce and the game still gathers at the waterholes. Skukuza in Kruger has an average September high of 31 °C and an average low of 14 °C, with about 28 mm of rain. The first migrant birds arrive from the north and the weavers start breeding. The weeping boer-bean trees flower red.

When to leave Marloth
