The gate opens about 40 minutes before sunrise on 1 July and half an hour before it by the end of the month. Sunset comes before closing time all month, by about a quarter of an hour at the start and a few minutes at the end. Expect to drive back to Marloth Park in the dark, and keep it slow, since the animals use the Marloth roads at night.

Holidays in July 2027

July has no public holidays. The winter school holidays run 26 June to 19 July 2027, and schools reopen on Tuesday 20 July.

The gates most often reach their daily limit for day visitors in school holidays and on long weekends. Kruger ran day-visitor quotas from 28 June to 21 July in 2025 and asked day visitors to book a time slot. Nothing had been announced for 2027 by 26 October 2026, so look at quotas and pre-booking before a visit in the first three weeks of July.

What July is like in the park

July brings clear winter days with little chance of rain, and the nights can be very cold. At Skukuza in Kruger the average high is 27 °C and the average low 6 °C, with about 11 mm of rain. Game viewing is very good, because the bush is open and the animals come to what water is left. Some winter birds, such as the stonechat, come down from the highveld.

When to leave Marloth

From Marloth Park, Crocodile Bridge is about 20-30 min away. Leave by 05:30 to be at the gate for 06:00, and in the school holidays be there when it opens.

Lower Sabie is 34 km from the gate. Planning on the 30 km/h average, that's a little over an hour, so leave Lower Sabie by 16:15 to be through Crocodile Bridge before 17:30.

The day fee is R140 for a South African adult until 31 October 2027. See Kruger fees for other visitors.

Other months: June, August or the whole year.
